Silica sol investment casting, also known as water glass investment casting or gel investment casting, is a casting processing method that uses silica sol (water glass) as a binder. . It is mainly used to manufacture high-precision, high-complexity metal parts and non-metal parts.

The specific steps of silica sol precision casting are as follows:

Mold preparation: Make the mold according to the shape and size requirements of the product. The mold may be a metal mold, a ceramic mold, or a mold of other materials.

Mold coating: Apply silica sol to the inner surface of the mold to form a uniform coating. Silica sol coating can be carried out by spraying, dipping or spin coating.

Gel preparation: After the mold coating has dried, prepare the silica sol gel. This usually involves curing the silica sol coating under constant temperature and humidity conditions.

Drying and dewaxing: Dry the gel mold to remove moisture. Then, a dewaxing process is performed, in which the wax pattern in the mold is burned or melted to remove it.

Sintering: Place the dried and dewaxed gel mold in a high-temperature furnace for sintering. During the sintering process, the silica sol will change and solidify accordingly, forming a strong silicide skeleton.

Pouring: Pouring metal or non-metallic materials in the sintered gel mold. Pouring can use vacuum pouring, pressure pouring and other methods to ensure that the material fully fills the fine structure of the mold.

Cooling and mold removal: After the pouring material has cooled and solidified, take out the finished product and perform mold removal. This may involve methods such as mechanical removal, chemical removal or heat treatment.

Machining and refinement: Castings are further machined and trimmed to obtain the required dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Silica sol precision casting has the advantages of high precision, high complexity, lower cost and fewer shrinkage cavities, and is widely used in aerospace, automobile manufacturing, medical equipment and other fields.
