Water glass precision casting is a special precision casting process, also known as silica sol precision casting or water glass cross-linked precision casting. It is a process that uses water glass (sodium silicate) as a binder and curing agent to prepare castings through the sol-gel method.
The process flow of water glass precision casting usually includes the following steps:
Mold preparation: Make the corresponding mold according to the shape and size requirements of the casting. Molds can be made of silicone, plaster, ceramics and other materials.
Mold coating: Coat the water glass solution on the surface of the mold to form a uniform coating. Water glass solutions usually require certain dilution and adjustment to obtain the appropriate viscosity and solidification speed.
Precision casting: Pour metal or non-metal melt (such as aluminum alloy, nickel-based alloy, etc.) into a mold coated with water glass solution. The metal or non-metal melt solidifies in the mold and bonds with the water glass to form the desired casting.
Curing and mold removal: After the casting is solidified, perform curing treatment. The curing process usually includes natural curing, heat curing or steam curing. Afterwards, the mold is disassembled and the cured casting is taken out.
Post-processing: Perform post-processing processes such as deburring, trimming, and polishing on castings to obtain the required dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
Water glass precision casting has the following advantages:
High precision: Water glass precision casting can produce castings with high dimensional accuracy and complex shapes.
Good surface quality: Through appropriate mold coating and post-processing processes, a smooth and uniform casting surface can be obtained.
Good detail reproducibility: Water glass investment casting can accurately reproduce the minute details and complex shapes of the mold.
High production efficiency: Compared with traditional lost wax precision casting, water glass precision casting has a shorter process cycle and higher production efficiency.
However, water glass precision casting also has some limitations, such as the fragility of the water glass coating, mold wear and water vapor generated during the curing process, which require process control and Solve it in mold design.
